The beginning of the week I was having such a hard time trying to get school to work for us. He wasn’t interested I felt inadequate on my teaching skills and on Tuesday I just had a mental breakdown. I regrouped and thanks to one of my best friends, Amy Milcic of Busy Boys Brigade, I was able to calm down and realize I was making this whole school thing too hard. She has a show on Periscope and she calls Wednesdays, Crazy Wednesday and I took off with that. We did Wacky Wednesday. We read the book Wacky Wednesday, we wore silly clothes and hats my son actually wore his clothes inside out. We did upside-down math. He loves being upside down so this was not a hard one to pull off. He was upside-down and he had to answer math facts. We also did a Wacky Writing Workshop. He wrote a silly story and acted it out for me. I really should have made a video of that. It was so cute.
This is truly one of Luke’s favorite lunches!
Well after that wonderful day, Thursday was Outside school. We did Bento boxes for lunch and studied science and read books about nature. He wrote a story about what it would be like to live outside all the time and for math we just did estimation on how many leaves we thought were on the trees and talked about the difference between estimation and approximation. Estimation is guessing how many leaves are on a tree and approximation is guessing how far away the clouds are. It was an awesome day and he really enjoyed School!
Today is Friday and we are having Movie Day with special movie treats, Hot-dogs and nachos for lunch, Popcorn for treats and yes I’m giving him a glass of soda with the popcorn. Don’t judge. LOL We have all the lights off and are watching shows on Netflix like Odd Squad, it’s and excellent Math show. Wild Kratts which is an awesome show about nature. One more we are watching on Netflix is The Boxcar Children it is just a great movie. We are also watching The Electric Company, it’s on Hulu. So far so good. We won’t make it an everyday thing of course but it may become our Special Friday treat! Don’t worry we also have frequent intermissions so he can run around and get the wiggles out. I plan on a bit of a dance party when his nephew gets here. He’s a 7-year-old so he can only sit still for a little while.
The whole reason for this post is to let you know if you are feeling overwhelmed, slow it down and think simple for a little while. It helps you feel less stressed and the kids have a ball, while they are learning! Isn’t that what it is all about anyway!
